SHOW BOAT (1951)

Playing anything from neurotic neighbors to sympathetic best friends, Agnes Moorehead made significant contributions as a supporting actress to several of classic cinema's greatest films. Her works earned her four Best Supporting Actress nominations over the course of her career, and she can still be seen today in reruns of the '60s sitcom "Bewitched" in her role as Samantha's mother Endora. |
Agnes Moorehead came to Hollywood from New York with Orson Welles to appear as Charles Foster Kane's mother in CITIZEN KANE (1941), her first of 60+ film roles. Moorehead as Mrs. Kane in Orson Welles' acclaimed CITIZEN KANE (1941), shown above in a still with Harry Shannon as Charles' father, George Coulouris as Charles' financial guardian Walter P. Thatcher, and Buddy Swann with his sled as young Charles Foster Kane. The film was nominated for nine Oscars in 1941 including Best Picture. |
